MinnCan Project Construction is Complete

Construction on the 304-mile MinnCan Project pipeline was completed as scheduled in September 2008 with some restoration work continuing through late 2008 and early 2009. The pipeline is owned by Minnesota Pipe Line Company and operated by Koch Pipeline Company (KPL)

Thank you to landowners and communities along the pipeline route for their support during the project.  Also, thank you to our construction team for its exceptional work and for helping us meet our goal of exceeding the highest standards for construction safety and environmental protection.

Pipeline safety

The MinnCan Project pipeline was tested after construction to confirm its integrity.  After the successful completion of all tests, the pipeline began transporting Canadian crude oil to Twin Cities refineries to help strengthen Minnesota’s energy future.

Safety of people and protection of the environment continue to be top priorities as KPL operates the pipeline.  Our goal is zero safety incidents, zero releases to the environment, and 10,000% regulatory compliance.  Through our Integrity Management Program, we perform regular tests and inspections to prevent corrosion and excavation damage to the pipeline.  We also provided safety information to community members and donated safety equipment and training to each of the sheriff’s departments in the 13 counties where the pipeline is located.

Pipeline neighbors and communities will continue to receive updates and information from KPL.
